Hi! Back in the late 90's, I was teaching at Greensville Correctional Center in Virginia, when the idea for Future Perfect first came to me. Watching the inmates file into my classroom, I wondered how I would react if I suddenly saw someone I knew among them. Suppose it were someone I had once loved? This thought led me to create Carrie Melton, a woman in crisis, who does discover someone familiar among her students. But he is not the person she thinks he is.

Future Perfect is an inspirational romance with a decidedy untraditional cast of characters, caught in a decidedly unromantic situation. An emotional cripple who has lost her faith, Carrie firmly believes two things: With just a little more effort, she can bring order to her disordered life, and finding her long-lost first love can make all her dreams come true. When neither of these beliefs works out for her, Carrie finds herself drowning in despair--until she reaches out to save someone else.

Want a taste from the book? This is from the first chapter:

Closing my eyes, I let his memory emerge from the darkness: the muscular arms, the broad shoulders, that shock of unruly auburn hair that fell across one eye. Then there was his smile--a glorious, shy, one-sided little grin--the smile that stopped me dead in my tracks one shinning May morning when I was seventeen and had no idea I was about to be ambushed by love. In that moment, and for every moment of the next six months, I knew what it was to experience pure, unadulterated joy. Each morning I awoke in a state of delighted distraction, knowing without the shadow of a doubt that I was the luckiest girl ever to have lived. Each night I put my head on my pillow, secure in the knowledge that Mac McKeithan's would love me forever, just as I would love him. I was wrong, of course.

I love to hear from my readers, so if you like the book, hate the book, want to talk about someone you love who's in prison, or have some memory of that lovely, dark country that is eastern North Carolina, please drop me an e-mail, or a snail-mail note at Box 39, State Road, NC 28676.
