Welcome
to our Rivendell. The original, found in J.R.R. Toilken's "Trilogy of the Rings," was founded by Elrond in the foothills of the Misty Mountains as a refuge for Elves and other "folk of good will." In its Great Hall, weary travelers shared stories, sang songs of bravery and cheer, exchanged lore and wisdom, and counseled each other in preparation for journeys yet to come. Because Toilken's Elven Peoples have always reminded us of teachers (They lived to learn, to understand and to speak. Oh, yes, and they rarely slept. Perhaps because they were up all night grading papers!) Anyway, as a couple of retired teachers, we decided to begin our own Rivendell -- a center where educational travelers might share their teaching lore, encourage each other on their perilous journeys, and sing songs together of bravery and good cheer. |
